Upcoming Summit for the Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions (AVCC), October 5 in Bradford

Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions’ (AVCC) ANNUAL SUMMIT is less than three weeks away. The AVCC Board has lined up an exciting array of speakers lined up. Kate McCarthy from Vermont Natural Resources Council will be keynoting the event with tools to assist in municipal conservation work, highlighting a new guide that VNRC has put out called Community Strategies for Vermont’s Forests and Wildlife. This will help towns translate natural resources problems into appropriate land use planning tools. After that, we’ll have concurrent sessions on advanced science topics, current topics and best practices for conservation commissions. See the agenda below. This will be an exciting time celebrating Vermont’s local conservation work! Please join us. Registration Form is attached! Simply fill it out and email it or print it and send. Non members are welcome to attend.

The AVCC business meeting is a small but important part of the SUMMIT agenda. We’re having elections for three seats on the AVCC board of directors. Jenna Calvi is up for re-election this year, while the other two-seats are newly created. The Board of Directors voted this month to increase the size of the board from five seats to seven seats to increase our capacity to get things done. We are currently seeking nominations for those seats and look forward to your participation in the elections. Please help us to find good people to serve on the board.

We have a packed exhibitor space lined up for you. This includes the Natural Resource Conservation Services cost share programs for landowners, the Agency of Natural Resources technical assistance providers, Vermont League of Cities and Towns Municipal Assistance Center, University of Vermont’s Extension program on Emerald Ash Borer, Upper Valley land Trust’s conservation program, and Bradford Conservation Commission’s display, just to name a few.

Register today and support local conservation!  Contact vtconservation@gmail.com for a registration form.
